The name ‘Rolex’ resonates with everything luxurious. Known for prestige, precision and timeless appeal. Rolex watches are not mere accessories or timepieces but status symbols, investment assets, and works of horological artistry.

This prestige and prominence remain well reflected in their prices. Over the years, select Rolex models have achieved legendary status with record-breaking auction prices, leaving us curious about which models are so coveted that collectors are actually willing to spend millions on them.

With that in mind, The Luxury Hut has compiled a list of the six most expensive Rolex watches in the world that definitely deserve your attention.

List of the 6 Most Expensive Rolex Watches in the World Rolex ‘Paul Newman’ Daytona

1. Rolex ‘Paul Newman’ Daytona (Ref: 6239)

The ‘Paul Newman’ Daytona holds the title for the most expensive Rolex ever sold at a public auction. It represents the ultimate convergence of story and object, a quality that collectors chase for decades.

It has an exotic dial with distinct Art Deco numerals and contrasting sub-dials.

The fact that this was Paul Newman’s personal Daytona made the timepiece even more desirable and a cornerstone of the Daytona mythology. It also features a heartfelt engraving on the back that reads “Drive Carefully Me,” adding an emotional resonance to an already priceless timepiece.

2. Rolex ‘Bao Dai’ (Ref. 6062)

In the year 1954, Bao Dai, the last emperor of Vietnam, visited Geneva to attend a convention, during which he stepped into a Rolex boutique with an extraordinary request to buy “the rarest and most precious Rolex ever made”.

He was presented with the Rolex ref. 6062, an iconic 36mm yellow gold model with triple-calendar moonphase watch, featuring a rare black dial and diamond markers.

Only two other diamond-dial ref. 6062 is known to exist, but Bao Dai’s distinct dial with five diamonds makes it incredibly rare. It is the kind of timepiece that goes down in history as one that combines high-quality materials, limited-edition status, and a prominent wearer.

3. Rolex ‘The Unicorn’ Daytona (Ref. 6265)

A rarity within rarities, the ‘Unicorn’ Daytona is the only one of its kind. That’s the kind of exclusivity that can outshine everything else, because collectors can never find another one of this ‘holy grail’ piece. It isn’t just expensive, but a reference point for scarcity in the Daytona catalogue.

Originally crafted for a German retailer, the Rolex Ref. 6265 was the only white gold Daytona produced and was never sold publicly at its time, hence the nickname, “Unicorn”. The watch is also a standout for its white gold-made bark-pattern bracelet.

In an era when Rolex was known only to use steel and yellow gold for the Daytona, ‘The Unicorn’ was destined to captivate collectors with its uniqueness.

4. Rolex ‘Antimagnétique’ (Ref. 4113)

Another example of a very rare Rolex is the ‘Antimagnetique’ Split-Seconds Chronograph ref. 4113. With only 12 pieces ever made, this is one of the ultra-rare watches and also one of the largest Rolex watches ever built.

The ref. 4113 is a vintage steel-case chronograph measuring 44mm in diameter. It has a silvered matte dial with Arabic numerals, thin gold baton indexes, two sub-dials and concentric telemeter and tachymeter scales on the dial’s periphery. The model is also outfitted with a split-second chronograph movement, something which the brand doesn’t even make today.

Interestingly, the ‘Antimagnetique’ models could never be bought as they were solely produced as gifts for the winning motorsport teams.

5. Rolex ‘Oyster Albino’ Daytona (Ref. 6263)

An extremely rare vintage Daytona, the Oyster Albino Ref. 6263 is one of only four that are believed to exist. Produced in the 1970s, it is another ‘Holy Grail’ timepiece. The watch gets its nickname, ‘Albino’, from the monochrome dial and sub-dial look.

The dial is the main highlight, with the silvery-white sub-dials matching the dial plate rather than creating any contrast. It is framed by a contrasting black Bakelite bezel with Daytona’s signature tachymeter scale engraving.

The ‘Oyster Albino’ ref. 6263 is one of the rarest and most expensive vintage Daytona models ever made. Additionally, the watch was once part of legendary musician Eric Clapton’s collection, who is also a serious watch connoisseur.

6. Rolex ‘Apocalypse Now’ GMT-Master (Ref. 1675)

Worn by Marlon Brando in his legendary role as Colonel Kurtz in the movie ‘Apocalypse Now’ (1979), the GMT-Master Ref. 1675 is one of the most expensive Rolex watches ever sold at an auction.

This legendary stainless steel watch is distinguished by its missing ‘Pepsi’ bezel, matte black strap, and hand-engraved case back. Brando famously removed the blue and red bezel, citing it as too distracting, yet insisted on wearing the watch, which eventually became a key part of his rugged, unrefined character. It also features an “M. Brando” engraving on the case back, adding to its personal appeal.

Brando presented the watch to his god-daughter following her graduation, expressing his pride, and she, in turn, gifted it to her husband at their wedding.
